Breast Augmentation Surgery Frequently Asked Questions

Can I breast feed after my breast augmentation?

Alot of women are concerned and there are many myths. The answer to this ever important question is, yes, absolutely! It is possible with a peri-areolar technique that the milk ducts may be blocked, but this can be resolved surgically.

Will my implants feel like natural breasts?

Whether or not your breasts feel natural depends on multiple variables. One of them is the amount of pre-existing tissue. The more pre-existing breast tissue, the more natural your breasts will feel. It has been reported that saline breast implants feels more natural than other breast implant types so saline may be the option for you if you’re shooting for natural feeling breats. While all cases are different, the breast implant placement can have an effect on the natural feeling of your breats. Many have found that “overs” move more naturally than “unders”. Lastly, the thickness and vitality of your skin will effect the feel of your new breasts.

How big should I go with my implants?

This question can only be answered by you, with some guidance from your surgeon and loved ones. The average size for women is between a C and D cup. As your surgeon or friends with breast implants will tell you, the majority of women that have had breast implants wish they had gone with bigger implants. This is the reason that statistically women have more than one breast augmentation procedure during their life time.

Will I experience sagging over time after a breast augmentation?

The short answer would be yes, that as time goes on a woman may experience some sagging but that this is due to the elasticity of the skin and not the implants. If the sagging is significant and not a result of the woman’s age and skin then it may be time to consider speaking with a surgeon regarding a breast lift.

Will I have stretch marks after my breast augmentation?

This depends largely on the elasticity of the skin which will vary from patient to patient. Some may be prone to stretch marks while others never get them. Some patients have tried olive oil, Vitamin E, Shea nut butter, and other treatments to remove the stretch marks, but none of these have been verified treatments.

Will my breast augmentation be painful?

While the amount of pain will vary from patient to patient, the short answer is that yes there will be some pain associated with the surgery because it is indeed a surgery. Many breast augmentation patients feel like there are bricks or heavy objects on their chest. The size of the implant, the location of incision, the placement of the breast implant, and prescribed medications will all play a role in the amount of pain you experience after your augmentation procedure.

Should I have a breast augmentation before or after having children?

Speak with your surgeon about your specific situation. That said, if you are planning on having a child within the next one to two years it may be wise to wait on your augmenatation procedure due to the changes that your breasts will occur. Should I try breast enlargement pills like BRAVA before getting breast implants?

This is entirely up to the patient, but I can not personally endorse or recommend these products. It is best that you speak with your doctor, surgeon, and friends-in-the-know about this alternative to surgery. Not all supplements are regulated by the FDA so it is important that you proceed with caution.

What will breast augmentation cost?

As with many of the above questions, this will vary depending on multiple variables. If you’ve had an augmentation procedure before the second may be more or less expensive depending on what else is needed to achive the goals. Is a reconstruction needed? Is a replacement or revision needed? Another factor is your location as surgeons in high profile areas such as Los Angeles or Beverly Hills will charge more than the same surgeon in a rural or remote location. Patients should expect to pay anywhere from $3,000 to $10,000 depending on these variables and more.
